Danny Africano is an Italian-Irish chef and the founder of Lignum, a renowned restaurant in Bullaun, County Galway. Born in Pompei to an Italian father and an Irish mother, he grew up in a family deeply rooted in hospitality, splitting his early years between Italy and Ireland.
He trained at the Dublin Institute of Technology and went on to build an international career, gaining experience in acclaimed kitchens across Italy, Australia, Singapore, Sweden, and Denmark.
In 2019, Danny opened Lignum, where he developed a distinctive style centered on fire-driven cooking, seasonality, and a deep respect for local ingredients. His cuisine reflects both his Mediterranean heritage and his connection to the Irish landscape, blending refined techniques with rustic, elemental flavors.
Since its opening, Lignum has earned significant national acclaim and multiple accolades for its innovative approach and immersive dining experience, establishing Danny as one of Ireland’s most exciting contemporary chefs.
