Rui Paula, born in Porto in 1967, is a renowned Portuguese chef known for his innovative approach to traditional cuisine. His culinary journey began in 1994 with the opening of Cêpa Torta in Alijó, where he honed his skills and developed his signature style. In 2007, he launched DOC in the heart of the Douro Wine Region, followed by DOP in Porto’s historic center in 2010.

From 2011 to 2016, Rui Paula served as Chief Consultant at Hotel Vidago Palace, one of Portugal’s most prestigious luxury hotels. His international experience expanded with a restaurant in Recife, Brazil, in partnership with businessman João Carlos Pais Mendonça.
In 2014, he opened Casa de Chá da Boa Nova in Leça da Palmeira, a stunning restaurant set in a national monument overlooking the Atlantic. His influence extends beyond the kitchen, as he has been a judge on MasterChef Portugal since 2014.
