Chen Zhiping, a native of Quanzhou, Fujian, is a protégé of Master Wu Rong, one of the great authorities in Min cuisine.
Over 17 years, he has developed a deep mastery of Fujian culinary traditions while shaping a distinctive contemporary style. Recognized early in his career with prestigious young chef honors in Shanghai, he quickly emerged as a leading voice in modern Fujian gastronomy. Since the opening of Meet the Bund in 2019, Chen has served as executive chef, reinterpreting Min cuisine through a refined, modern lens and presenting it to an international audience.
Under his leadership, the restaurant has garnered multiple major awards in China and across Asia, positioning it as one of the most celebrated Fujian cuisine establishments on the global stage. For Chen, Fujian’s landscape—its mountains, rivers, and coastal waters—forms the soul of Min cuisine. He believes that true mastery begins with understanding one’s roots: modern technique is simply a new way to express tradition.
His cooking seeks to awaken memory, capturing both the rustic honesty and delicate precision that define Fujian’s culinary heritage. Through this balance, he continues to advance in cuisine with quiet innovation and deep respect.
