Martín Berasategui was born in 1960 in San Sebastián. His culinary journey began at Bodegón Alejandro, a family-run restaurant where he earned his first Michelin Star. Between the ages of 15 and 27, he traveled to France to further his training, working with notable chefs such as Jean Paul Heinard in Bayonne, André Mandion in Anglet, François Brouchican in Ustariz, Bernard Lacarrau in Labatut, and Didier Oudill at Les Prés D’Eugénie, alongside Michel Guerard. His career in fine dining continued with Alain Ducasse at the Louis XV restaurant in Monaco.
In 1993, Martín opened his own restaurant, Martín Berasategui, in Lasarte-Oria, near San Sebastián, where he earned his first Michelin Star just six months after opening. He later received two more stars in 2002. Today, he holds 11 Michelin Stars across several restaurants, including Martín Berasategui in Lasarte-Oria, Lasarte in Barcelona, M.B. in Tenerife, Oria in Barcelona, Ola Martín Berasategui in Bilbao, and Etxeko Ibiza. He also leads the Repsol Guide rankings with 11 Soles.
