Bio

Niklas Ekstedt is a renowned Swedish chef and restaurateur known for revolutionizing Nordic cuisine by blending traditional cooking techniques with modern flavors. His culinary journey began at the gastronomic high school of Racklöfska in Åre, followed by experience at prestigious kitchens such as Charlie Trotter in Chicago and Michelin-starred El Bulli. By the age of 21, he opened his first restaurant, “Niklas,” in Helsingborg, marking the start of his influential career.

In 2011, Niklas launched Restaurant Ekstedt in Stockholm, where he took a bold approach by cooking all dishes using open fire. This method emphasizes the rich heritage of Nordic cuisine while incorporating innovation to elevate its flavors and presentation. At Ekstedt, traditional techniques like wood-burning stoves and open flames are central to crafting dishes that reflect the natural elements of Sweden’s landscape.

Beyond his work in the kitchen, Niklas is a respected TV personality, author, and passionate advocate for sustainability in cooking. He promotes responsible practices in the culinary world, advocating for the use of local, seasonal ingredients and environmentally conscious techniques that align with his commitment to preserving Nordic food traditions.
