Ørjan Johannessen (born 10 August 1985) is a Norwegian chef and restaurateur celebrated for his refined, seafood-driven cuisine and his deep connection to the coastal landscape of Western Norway. Raised in the island village of Bekkjarvik, he grew up in the kitchen of his family’s historic inn, where he developed an early dedication to craftsmanship, hospitality and local culinary traditions.
After training in Norway and completing his apprenticeship at Hotel Neptun in Bergen, Johannessen advanced his skills at Mathuset Solvold and through the Gastronomisk Institutt. His competitive breakthrough came in 2011 when he won Bocuse d’Or Norway, followed by victory at Bocuse d’Or Europe 2012. In 2013 he earned the award for Best Fish Dish at the Bocuse d’Or World Final, and in 2015 he achieved the top honour, winning gold with his team.
Returning to Austevoll, he and his twin brother Arnt elevated Bekkjarvik Gjestgiveri into a notable gastronomic destination. In 2023, Johannessen opened Beckerwyc House and its signature restaurant, Mirabelle by Ørjan Johannessen, where he continues to define Island Gastronomy — a modern, elegant expression of Nordic coastal cuisine.
