Zor Tan is a Malaysian-born chef based in Singapore, known for a distinctive culinary style that bridges refined European technique with deep-rooted Chinese and Southeast Asian influences. Raised in Perak, Malaysia, he grew up in a family where food was central to daily life, shaping his belief that cooking is about nourishment, memory and emotion.
After formal training in Singapore, Zor developed his craft in some of Asia’s most influential kitchens, gaining experience in Singapore, Taipei and Macau. These formative years honed his technical precision and creative confidence, leading to senior leadership roles where his cuisine earned significant international accolades and critical recognition.
In 2022, Zor Tan opened Born at Singapore’s historic Jinrikisha Station. There, he presents his personal “Circle of Life” philosophy through carefully composed tasting menus that explore themes of origin, heritage, craft and legacy. His cooking is thoughtful and expressive, combining narrative depth with bold flavours and meticulous execution. Today, Zor Tan is regarded as one of the most compelling contemporary voices in the region, celebrated for cuisine that is both deeply personal and forward-looking.
